CCAn’t Hide the Shame!

Saturday, November 22 at 9:30 am hundreds will gather outside Stewart Detention Center.  This movement began eight years ago when individuals detained inside this for-profit facility staged a hunger strike to fight the inhumane conditions of this money-making venture of Corrections Corporation of America (CCA).  Their act of resistance was not in vain.  In 2007 about 30 persons of conscience affirmed the detainee’s dignity and added a public witness to their acts of nonviolence.

Since that day, the protests and vigils continue.  Documentation of the violation of human rights and detention standards progresses.  And the voice for the immediate and permanent closure of this medium-level security prison housing civil immigration detainees gets louder and louder.

Shut down Stewart!

In the name of Roberto Medina Martinez who died while detained at Stewart, “Shut down Stewart!”

In the name of Mark Lyttle, a US citizen wrongfully detained and deported via Stewart, “Shut down Stewart!”

In the name of Pedro Guzman and the countless others who have been confined in this place for months and years for simply fighting their deportation, “Shut down Stewart!”

In the name of countless families denied contact visits and torn apart by an evil system of record-breaking detention and deportation, “Shut down Stewart!”

Join us Saturday, November 22 at 9:30 am in Lumpkin and, together, we will “Shut down Stewart!”
